WORKING
WITH CATS
The
cats here at the shelter would love to have you come by and spend
some of your time with them. They have other felines here,
but would love the company and friendship of a human companion!
While these kitties are waiting for a home, why not volunteer
to help them “pass the time”? You will enjoy
their company and be rewarded knowing that you stopped by and
“made their day”. Many volunteers say that the
animals are “good therapy” for them, so why not come
by and give it a try??
Assist
with various duties in our Cattery, such as cleaning (mopping
floors, sweeping, cleaning cages/litter pans and bowls), socializing,
grooming and laundry duties. This can be a physical job,
so be prepared to use cleaning products such as bleach and disinfectants.
You
must enjoy the company of cats and be able to work independently
or with minimal supervision. Cat volunteers must be comfortable
in handling all cats and work with guidance from RBARI staff.
All cat volunteers are also required to go through the RBARI Cat
Socialization Program. This one-time lecture covers topics
such as: how to approach cats, training using treats, cat
behaviors & why, cat body language and “hissy”
cats. The Cat Socialization Program helps increase the adoptability
of the cats by increasing their interaction with humans
for those that may have been neglected through their lives.
Time commitment: Minimum 1 hour shifts.
