SPECIAL NEEDS PETS

Each year RBARI helps many sick animals recover from illness and injury and adopts them into loving homes. This is an extremely rewarding job for us, but it doesn't come without cost. Treatment for these pets can somtimes go up into the thousands of dollars. If you would like to make a donation towards vet care for these animals please contact the shelter.

DAKOTA CHASE
DAKOTA2

In rescue you are constantly being sent pictures of animals that need rescue and we all know that you can't save everyone. But every once in a while you see a picture that you just can't ignore. This is what happened when I saw Dakota's picture. She was at an Ohio animal control facility in danger of being euthanized simply because the shelter does not adopt out any "pitbull type dog". She ended up in the shelter after the place she lived was raided by police during a drug bust. The story gets much sadder, when police entered they saw two pit bulls and began shooting at them, one was killed immediately and one was shot multiple times in the leg and was able to run off and hide in a closet. When the humane law officer arrived she found the dog in a ball, bleeding and shaking. When she picked the dog up, the dog just started licking her face. That dog was Dakota.  Since then I rescued Dakota and she is being fostered at my house. She has pins in her leg where she had multiple fractures to her tibia and fibula. At this point she has no use of her leg but with some physical therapy the vets are hoping that she will not need the leg amputated. She has been an absolute angel. All she wants to do is be hugged and kissed. She has so much love to give, she greets me everyday with kisses and she wags her tail so hard sometimes she falls over. She is so trusting and after all the ways she has been hurt by humans all she sees is the good in people. She is a true testament to animals in general but more specifically a TRUE testament to the American Pit Bull Terrier.
