OTHER WAYS TO HELP THE HOMELESS PETS AT RBARI There are many ways that you can help at the shelter without actually volunteering “hands on” with the animals. Some ways to use your various talents: Fostering - (taking an animal into your home temporarily, all supplies are provided as well as vet care), fundraising (donating proceeds from a bake sale, car wash, garage sale, etc.), Organizing Events (such as our yearly tricky tray, auction, etc.), Collecting items from our “wish list” (post wish list flyers through the neighborhood or place collection boxes in town), Participating in our annual candy sale (solicit candy sales through the catalog and deliver once the order arrives), posting flyers for upcoming events (in your town, work, etc.), Sponsor a RBARI animal through our Fund-A-Friend program for $20/month (receive a quarterly updated letter on how your sponsored animal is doing), Donate unwanted items to one of the participating RBARI thrift shops - RBARI receives a percentage of items sold (see participating thrift shops on web site), Educate family/friends about spaying/neutering/ responsible pet ownership, sponsor an outdoor cat for a spay/neuter (male $40, female $55), Distributing information about the shelter at a local pet store/supermarket, baking (home-baked items are needed for different fundraisers), Sewing/making crafts (home made items are needed to sell at our gift shop), Selling tickets for events (through friends, work or soliciting at a store), Contacting companies for needed items (write letters or e-mail), Transporting animals or items (occasionally transporters are needed to pick up cats/dogs from the tri-state area and bring to the shelter or pick up donated items in the local area), Help with quarterly mailings (folding, stapling and sorting mail pieces), Write for our newsletter (articles as needed), Computer work (data input or creating flyers for events), Donate photocopies of needed shelter forms (can you make copies at work?), Maintenance (painting, landscaping, carpentry, electrical, plumbing for small “handy man” jobs at the shelter) Instead of receiving birthday gifts, ask for donations from RBARI’s ”wish list” (see web site for complete list).
